Can you arrange just a car?
Yes. It’s more often part of a bigger trip, but a car on its own is a perfectly good request.
Can I do a one-way rental?
Usually — it depends on the route and what operators offer on it. Tell your advisor both ends of the drive and they’ll tell you what’s arrangeable.
What if my flight is late and the counter is closed?
This is exactly why the car belongs in the same record as the flight: your advisor sees the whole itinerary and plans the pickup around how you actually arrive.
